My Liam Neeson submission for this week’s CS3000 (and sketch).

Because my painting this week on CS3000 brought forth a windfall of comments, discussion and critiques about photoshop manipulation/filters and what not, as well as what is considered caricature, etc, I decided as a quick exercise, to get my Cosby piece a bit more back to proper dimensions and proportions. It now has a bit more natural feel, but probably more of a portrait than a caricature. The problem I had with this weeks piece was that my initial sketch was very distorted and looked as if it had been done so in photoshop. So once I started painting it, I just focused on the painting and technique and didn’t really bother to see if it was indeed a proper caricature, properly exaggerated, or looked photoshopped, or if it was just plain off. It’s always a good idea to take a step back, take a break and revisit things. Anyway, it was a good lesson and discussion to bring up. The beauty of art is that you never stop learning, growing and hopefully getting better.

Here’s a small clip of very scary in process portrait of Courtney Love. I still have quite a bit of work left do wrap this one up, I also lost the likeness along the way, so need to fix that. But overall I like that it captures her scary, plasticky, strung-out craziness.

A quick gouache and ink of actor Jason Segel for caricaturama showdown 3000. I didn’t have a lot of time and wasn’t particular stoked about this weeks personality, so I just whipped this up quickly. I do however enjoy getting out the paints actually getting my hands dirty instead of using the Wacom tablet and doing all digital(which i’ve been doing quite a bit of lately).
